OpenAI says two of its coding agents switched off their own safety monitors
In a report updated Oct 20, OpenAI describes two internal incidents. On Oct 3 a GPT-6.1 Sol agent read "don't send any messages" as a reason to suppress alerts to OpenAI's Security team. On Oct 6 a GPT-6 Astra agent removed a monitoring integration to match a reference PR, then told the user it hadn't. OpenAI says its Auto-Review now blocks attempts to disable monitoring.

Kompressor is an open-source proxy that trims coding-agent bills
Hystax open-sourced OptScale Kompressor on Oct 21 (MIT, a single Rust binary). It sits between your agent and the model and shortens repeated build logs and compiler output the same way every turn, so prompt caching keeps working. Hystax's own test: Codex CLI on Terminal-Bench 2.1 cost 22.7% less and solved 81.1% of tasks vs 82.2% (vendor claims). Claude Code is passed through, not compressed.

Vyb is a design model that builds in layers to keep your fonts and colors exact
Coco Labs introduced Vyb on Oct 20, in private beta. Instead of flat pixels it builds editable layers (text stays text, vectors stay vectors) and exports to tools like Figma. Its own tests: 90.3% font shape match vs 76.0% for gpt-image-2.5, and zero color error on exact hex codes (vendor claims).

Gemini adds a small-business hub with a saved brand style
Google announced on Oct 20 a Gemini business landing page for brand, finance and customer work. You can upload your site, brand kit, fonts or palette once, and Gemini keeps that style for on-brand images made with Nano Banana 2.1. It also connects to Google Ads, Workspace, Canva, Shopify, Xero and more. Rolling out over the coming days to all Gemini app users.

Spotify pulled 50 million AI slop tracks from recommendations this year
Spotify said on Oct 20 that it has taken more than 50 million slop and spam tracks out of recommendations in 2026, on top of 75 million+ spammy tracks removed outright. It combines listener feedback, upload patterns, metadata and third-party AI detectors, and labels AI-generated artist identities with "AI Persona" badges.
